LONE DANCER: IROQUOIS CARVER


Wes Hill, also known as Lone Dancer, was inspired in the art of carving at a young age. He watched his grandfather carve objects from wood and stone. He tried carving when he was a teenager, fell away from it and took it up again seriously for the past 18 years.

He began making Kachina Dolls and Pow Wow Dancers, recreating both their body movements and their dress. Mr. Hill favors basswood for the main body of the dolls, with added items kept as real as possible with leather, hair, and feathers.   ...more»
